Pinhole camera project

I decided not to edit any of my photos past inverting them to embrace the imperfections of my work. I have ripped photo paper and cut photo paper that is off to highlight the imperfections in my work. With one of my self-portraits, I even got pen on it and I decided to fix it but I didn’t want to just cut it and ignore the mistake I had made so instead I ripped it to highlight the mistake and embrace it.

Duration sequence (ass pics)

-       The duration shows the learning with the pinhole camera, first and second picture are shaky and not clear, also a line through one of them and it just isn’t the clearest, but it shows the learning process to get a good picture. The third one is still a little blurry, but I honestly like the esthetic. Shows the time it takes to work through a problem and working through how to take a good photo.

-       So, mooning pictures, why did I decide to do mooning pictures? You might ask, I have three main reasons behind it.

o   First reason is that the box I used for my camera holds a lot of negative energy and weight for me and it is kind of like a last fuck you to that part of my life.

o   Second is from a more feminist perspective in that mooning is seen as a more male act and it is seen as quite vulgar and not “lady like” so it is taking this back for women and showing that we can be vulgar, and nudity doesn’t have to be inherently sexual.

o   The last one and I think the most important is that its 2021 and we are living through a pandemic and I’m out here taking pictures of my ass with a pinhole camera…. That’s fucking hilarious I think anyways

Self portrait

-       I took a couple self-portraits and inverted them.

-       Not much to it just a picture of me

Where my eyes cannot go

-       I decided to rip and cut photo paper and then stick it back together and take a picture then develop it with the ripped and cut paper.

-       Due to the fact that it is raised and different textures due to the paper and there are sometimes spots missing due to the collaging, there is no way that my eyes could go there by themselves.

-       I had a more intricate idea for this portion another part to it but I ran out of time.

Assignment 1 diptych

These are two film photos that I took then got developed at a local store. I really like to have prints of all of my photos because I like to have physical copies. The photo on the left is taken from the streets in Thailand in 2019 and the photo on the right is taken from the top of mount Hoffman in Kananaskis in the summer of 2021. They are on opposite ends of the earth and represent opposite vibes. One is in the city and one is in the backcountry. They are yes and no because they are opposing.

Response to persona 1966

This movie honestly made me quite angry just based on the fact that in true 1966 fashion they did not portray mental health very well. It was quite frustrating and I had many negative feelings throughout the movie. Sometimes I find that we romanticize the idea of a film due to its claim to being very artistic and people aren't critical enough about the content and the portrayal of vulnerable populations. Because the movie did a horrible job at depicting mental illness I decided to take it upon myself to do some of the work in depicting mental illness in a way that was more realistic.  I decided to write my own disclaimer for the project: "Persona" (1966) contains representations rooted in misogyny and misinformation, which may now be seen as outdated or insensitive. Be aware of: 1.    Mental Health : Depictions may not reflect current understanding or compassion. 2.    Hysterical Woman Trope : An oversimplified dramatization of women's emotions. 3.  ...

Monologue and final project #3

In this project I embrace the messiness that is every day life. The monologue that we had to read for this project talked about the complexity and fluidity of identity. That is why I chose my partner who is non binary and uses they them pronouns as the subject for this piece. It incorporates the idea that there is binary thinking in the world. There is binary thinking but that does not mean we should be thinking as everyone else does. The monologue challenges the notion of fixed categories, this piece embraces the spectrum between chaos. Hugo also speaks to the past, present and future. In these pictures you can depict what happened in the past to make the space the way that it is you can anticipate what is going to happen in the future either a messier room or cleaning of the room and you see what is going on at the moment with the subject doing different activities in the space.  I asked my partner for an interpretation of the monologue because they were the subject and I wanted ...
